In December 2017, Carnival Cruise Lines announced the homeporting of Carnival Elation in 2019. Starting May 12, 2019, the ship operates year-round scheduled 4-5-day "long weekend" Bahamas cruises. Departures are on Thursdays (4-day itinerary to Freeport and Nassau) and on Mondays and Saturdays (5-day itinerary to Amber Cove Dominicana and Grand Turk Island). In August 2015, commissioners approved USD 81 million port development project for upgrades of terminals 5 and 10, aimed at handling larger-sized vessels (details in the "terminal" section below). The project's financing was secured through bank loans and bonds.

Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal 3 has been recently redeveloped and is used mainly by Carnival Cruise Line. It is on the port’s south side next to Jetty Park Viewpoint and closest to the channel exit. Day 5: Fun Day at Sea
Port Canaveral continues to expand with proposals for a new cruise terminal that would open in late 2026 on the port’s south side. Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal takes its name from Cape Canaveral, one of the most well-known barrier islands along Florida’s East Coast. The cruise port is immediately to the south of Cape Canaveral, better known as the home of the NASA Kennedy Space Center. Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal is a mere 15 miles from Junction 205 on the I-95.

The new CT-3 terminal is the largest single-construction project ever at the port. The work included dredging of the port, bridge work, upgraded berth construction for larger ships, road widening, and several new buildings, including a new cruise parking garage onsite. In 2016 was completed another (USD 48,4 million) renovation project at Cruise Terminal 5 (used mostly by Carnival Cruise Line). Among the improvements were terminal expansion, pier elongation (by 120 ft / 37 m), new mobile boarding bridges, new parking garage (capacity 1044 cars).
